Urban Abstract GOLD LION, Cannes!

OK, OMG. WE WON!!! HIPPIKAYEI ....!!!

Urban Abstract won a GOLD LION in Cannes last night from Design category. We take our hats off and salute the jury.

Our friend Clemens was there to pick up our Lion since we couldn't make it (yes we are very bummed about this).

I cannot even begin to describe how flabbergasted we are about the lion. Just so so cool. And hey our CD / AD Jopsu is only 28 years old and a woman. Maybe not the most common creature petting a golden lion.

Before this year officially last time a Gold Lion came to Finland was 1969. So it's about time to start bringing those babies home. To hell with it, Finland even has a golden lion in the Finnish crest. 1969? Come on peoples!!

Also our tiger Iggy at home is happy about the news and gladly welcomes the new cat into the family. 'but I am still boss and kick any lion ass, any day - golden or not' - Comments Iggy.

Carolina's blog...

We met a very nice and interesting German lady in Tokyo quite recently in Rich magazine launch party. Carolina Cwiklinska from the creative agency North Kingdom, based in Stockholm. She made a very beautiful blog about her trip to Japan. You can check it out here.

She also made a nice post about our encounter. You can find that
here.

And here's her snapshot of Jopsu with the Founder & Creative Director of
+81 magazine Satoru Yamashita. Photo © Carolina.

D&Ad Awards Gala, London

We had a blast attending the
D&Ad gala in London to celebrate our bronze / in book award. We were in awe of the amazing quality of winning work and the colleagues who attended. Even Spike Jonze showed up to pick up the President's Award. Very cool. Here is a shot courtesy of D&Ad, more can be found from their Flickr page.

Manmaru - Adrien Dufond, Paris

Had a meeting in Paris with our dear friend and flashmaster from Paris, Adrien Dufond of Manmaru.

...very envious of his old Parisian flat or as he put it: 'it's like living in a museum' :D

Double I - Identity Design

We created an Identity for a new Finnish design management, export and agency: Double I. The company is handling clients between Finland and Japan.

For the website we asked our dear friend Maruyama Chikao (the one behind score of urban abstract) to compose the music. Photos we took ourselves... and finally we got a chance to collaborate with Adrien from Manmaru with the interactive design. Merci beaucoup!

The paper for the business cards is thick stuff shipped from Takeo paper in Japan. We used silk screen printing to get the desired feel.

And we are proud of the logo design, why not :)

Urban Abstract made the Book in D&AD Awards!

Awesome!

Urban Abstract has been chosen for the book in TV & Cinema Communications category under; TV Promotions, Stings & Programme Junctions. In our category, a total of 7 pieces were chosen for the book, us included.

We didn't win any awards
in Vuoden Huiput (except made the book there as well..) so this kinda softens the blow :)
It's always kind of cool to be amongst other small players such as BBC, HBO, MTV, NICK etc.. :D

List of nominations and the ones who made it to the book here:

http://www.dandad.org/?page_id=3173

Quote from D&AD:

'With over 30% of judging complete, 154 entries have been selected to go into the D&AD Annual – representing the best creative work of the year.'

And here's more info about the book on D&AD website. It will be published by Taschen, which is also very cool.

A lot of pieces took part in the D&AD competition this year. Nice:

'The D&AD awards panel judges over 20,000 pieces of work from design studios, advertising agencies, branding consultancies, film production and photographic agencies, digital media pioneers, and other creative firms from all over the globe.'

Great!
